A flashlight will appear whenever you do that. By pressing the shoot button on the right side of the screen you shoot pixels at the shapes that come down the screen. But don't just shoot mindlessly: you need just the right number of pixels in each column to fill the shape. Shooting too many will end your combo and create surplus pixels (red round elements protruding below the uncomplete shape). To get rid of the surplus pixels, swipe them away with your finger. Shapes that hit the bottom of the screen, as well as surplus pixels, will damage you, removing hitpoints (check the bar at the left of the screen). Complete shapes will get out of the way.
